Diary, 1755-1813, bulk: 1755-1767.

Diary of Sir Charles Henry Frankland, Collector for the Port of Boston, Mass. from 1741-1757. Surviving the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, he described in his diary the resulting destruction and suffering. Miscellaneous notes include comments on the Albany Congress (1754); record of expenditures; notes about flowers in Portugal; and thoughts about the conduct of foreign affairs by Great Britain, France, Portugal, and colonial America. The diary was also used by Thomas Frankland and later by Matthias Ellis to record extracts from the Boston Almshouse records.
